During this service we were exploring the story of Hagar and Ishmael (Genesis 21:8-21).

The sand represented the area that Abraham and his people were living in, and later the desert where Hagar and Ishmael faced death.

The large bowl of water was next to the sand and covered by a cloth (until God revealed the well to Hagar).

We used this story to explore experiences of feeling unseen, hopeless, powerless, helpless, unvalued, before moving to hear the Good News Matthew 10:29-34, assuring us that we, and all those experiencing these feelings are truly seen, like Hagar, by God.
